Student Biography
Daniel Schaffield is a dedicated Computer Science student at California State University Channel Islands. He began his academic journey at Santa Barbara City College before transferring to CSUCI to pursue advanced studies in software engineering and artificial intelligence. For the past three years, Daniel has worked as a professional software engineer, designing and implementing AI-powered JupyterLab extensions and creating sophisticated financial dashboards. He also has a lengthy background in robotics, having been a mentor for a high school robotics team.
Junxi (Steven) Li is an international undergraduate student at CSUCI, majoring in Computer Science with a minor in Math and Statistics. He began his studies in Spring 2023 and is expected to graduate in Spring 2025. Although he has received offers from several U.S. master’s programs, his next steps remain uncertain—he is considering further study, seeking employment in the U.S., or returning to China to teach TOEFL classes.
Project Background
As LLM’s have grown more capable and tool calling standards have improved significantly, we sought out to see how accurate and useful an LLM controlled quad robot could be.
Our goal was to design a dog-like robot that can communicate to the user and bring entertainment by having physical movements and gestures.
